Core Academic Studies
The core academic subjects are taught by grade level teams which are each located in different wings of the building. The teachers at each grade level share common planning time during which they can discuss and plan curriculum coordination, scheduling, and other issues concerning the students they share.

Students in 6th grade take Language Arts, Mathematics (two periods), Reading, Science, and Social Studies daily.  Eighth grade students have only one period of Mathematics and have an additional enrichment class period each day.  All courses are based on the West Virginia Content Standards and Objectives (WV CSOs) in accordance with county curriculum guidelines.

Related (or Integrated) Arts Studies
Typically students take Physical Education/Health for one semester and Art, Computer Keyboarding, and Music in nine-week rotations each year. Sixth grade students have a nine-week Introduction to Foreign Languages rotation, also. The Integrated Arts teachers also share a common planning time to coordinate the schedules and discuss issues relating to students and curriculum.

Electives
Students may choose Band or Chorus as an elective in place of some of the other Integrated Arts classes. Seventh and eighth graders may alternately choose German as an elective and earn a high school credit for successfully completing both years' language study.
